It seems to be with mixed emotions that a students applies for post secondary education once they finish their time in high school. There are so many things that must consider when choosing what institutions to apply at.
The Ontario Federation of Agriculture aims to take away one of these concerns for those applying for an agriculture related field of study. They have bursaries that award each year that offer the winning students 2000 dollars towards their post secondary agricultural related education.
The criteria for apply is firstly that you are an OFA member, a child of a member, an employee of an OFA member company and are a resident of Ontario.
The application process requires that you demonstrate volunteer and industry-related accomplishments focused on an interest in agriculture and rural issues, community involvement and have satisfactory academic performance.
To apply all you need to do is go to the Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s website at ofa.on.ca then click on Community then the OFA Bursary Program.
You will need to put together a cover letter in addition to the application form that explains your education goals and future plans in the agricultural industry.
Attach your current resume or list of involvement and accomplishments.
The application also needs proof of your enrolment in your course of study. This can be scanned, photocopied or digitally photographed. You can include your acceptance letter or if already enrolled a copy of your most recent course enrolment.
Finally you will need a letter of recommendation from a mentor, employer, volunteer leader etc. That outlines your personal involvement in the industry and community and your role as a current or future leader in agriculture.
Bursary winners have their name and photos published on OFA promotional materials. You become the inspiration of the students of tomorrow.
