Wellington North Looking to Keep Butter Tart Trail to the Township

Wellington North councilors are showing some support to keep the townships Butter Tart Trail away from the county’s hands.

Staff has voted down a staff recommendation to give the Butter Tart Trail trademark to Wellington County with councilors agreeing they need to revive the popular trail instead of handing it over to the county.

Exactly how it sounds, the Butter Trail Trail shows a route of local businesses offering butter tarts and similar baked goods.

Mayor Andy Lennox says while he likes the idea of the township doing it themselves but also wonders if they should expand out a bit more

“Should we be limiting it to ourselves and our local partners or should we be allowing the county to participate in this is one of the questions I have. I’m happy to retain the trademark but should we be widening the umbrella a little bit?” said Lennox.

Councilor Steve McCabe echoed comments from Lennox adding so long as the they “we’re not lost in it.”

Staff will return at a future meeting with a report on different options for council choose from.
