It’s expected West Perth council will return to the discussion today of having a 150th Homecoming celebration set in 2024.
The idea was first proposed by Mayor Walter McKenzie who wondered if there could be a group of community members to put together a committee or just simply look to see if there is any interest in having a homecoming event.
McKenzie says to have the support of the community, would open up suggestions which could help organize the task ahead.
“If there is enough people in favour of such an event, it would not have to be run by the municipality, but it would support itself and not be an expense to the tax payer. By that I mean, we’d have to give it some seed money but it would be more of a loan.” said McKenzie.
The 150 year celebration would also tie in around the same time of the 26th anniversary of the founding of West Perth. The last homecoming event was held 25 years ago.
