Wellington Terrace has received a provincial award for their Pet Therapy program.
The County’s Long Term Care Home has won the AdvantAge Ontario Innovation and Excellence Supporting Seniors Award.
The pet therapy program transforms the traditional model by giving residents hands on responsibilities and meaningful care giving roles. Instead of brief animal visits, residents are actively taking part in experiences such as hatching chicks, raising ducklings and foster small animals with a partnership with the local humane society.
Tiffany Wurdell, Life Enrichment Manager says the program provides residents with real animal care giving experiences and the results speak for themselves.
