Wellington North council is trying to get a better deal on the Land Transfer Tax and GST from the province and federal government.
Council approved a motion for a request from both levels of government on the deal to formally ask the province to redistribute the Land Transfer Tax and from the feds regarding the GST.
What’s been a heavy topic in recent local councils and organization meetings is something echoed by councilor Steve McCabe saying the agreement hasn’t changed in years.
“We should be shouting more about how Wellington North and I’d say some of the northern municipalities in Wellington County are meeting or exceeding the housing rates that the province is looking at and we have little to no funding coming in for it. Phase 2 of our wastewater treatment plant being one of them.” said McCabe.
With the approval by council, staff will be sending out copies of the resolution passed to government officials.
