Wellington County has been given $105,000 in federal funding to develop a new climate adaptation plan to protect local infrastructure, safeguard essential services and build community resilience to the growing impacts of climate change.
Called Weather Ready Wellington, the investment by the Government of Canada and Federation of Canadian Municipalities comes through the FCM’s Green Municipal Fund under the Local Leadership for Climate Adaption initiative.
Wellington County is one of 70 municipalities across the country to share $5.2 million in funding for climate adaptation planning.
Warden Chris White says they are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 6 per cent by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050.
