Wellington County Begins Mosquito Larvicide Program

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has started its regular mosquito larvicide program.

The program will run until early October.

In a release, Medical Officer of Health and CEO Dr. Nicola Mercer says some species may carry the West Nile virus which if transferred to humans can cause fly like symptoms and in rare cases, inflammation of the brain or spinal column can occur which could cause permanent disability or death.

The larvicide will be applied to breeding sites such as roadside ditches, temporary pools, areas of standing water and sewage lagoons.
