Wellington County asks Province for lowering of Intensification Targets

Wellington County has heeded the feedback from staff and approved a recommendation to request a lowering of the population intensification set by the Province.

The report presented recently as part of the ongoing review of the official plan indicates the local government would like intensification targets lowered from 20 to 15 percent.

The areas impacted by the targets include Fergus, Elora, Drayton, Clifford, Harriston, Palmerston, Arthur and Mount Forest.

The report presented indicated overall the County was achieving the 20 percent target but some slower growing communities were putting pressure on others to speed up to make the overall rate possible.
