Wellington County is setting a five year plan to reduce greenhouse gas emission.
The plan is estimated to cost $14.2 million as part of the county’s climate change mitigation plan.
The plan includes to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, aim to reduce carbon emissions by six per cent from 2017 levels by 2030 by cutting off the equivalent of 81,960 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
County councilors approved and signed off on Future Focused, the county’s climate change mitigation plan with a request of a cost estimate for the first five years from 2022-26.
Though the high price tag, Climate Change and Sustainability Manager Karen Chisholme says around 64 per cent can be recovered from grants and subsidies.
