North Perth spent time during Monday’s meeting to discuss the final report of the One Way Block trial which has been in place since August of last year.
Overtime, the one way expanded and made changes such as limiting left hand turns on Wellington Avenue South.
Residents and businesses shared their thoughts during various public meetings held during this time which saw 75% of residents in favour of removing the pilot project.
Julia Salvini from Salvini Consulting says the feedback has proven useful in the recommendations to be made.
“Our recommendation is to remove the pilot project. We heard a number of the concerns that were raised and in addition to those concerns we know the municipality has to reconstruct Elma street next year and the team feels that additional delay to the people who live in the southern parts of Listowel having to navigate the additional delays of having Elma street closed is probably a bit too much.” said Salvini.
A variety of changes have been approved by council, including the removal of the one way on Wallace Avenue and reinstate the east side pedestrian crossing while also keeping the all way stop control at Wallace and Elma and for council to put their focus towards the truck bypass.
Council approved the following in relation to the one way trail;
1. Remove from Schedule G: One Way Streets – Wallace Avenue South
2. Retain on Schedule C: All Way Stops – Wallace Avenue South at Elma Street
3. Remove from Schedule B: No Stopping Zones – Wallace Avenue South from
Main Street to Elma Street.
4. Retain the restriction of a No Left Turn – Main Street Westbound at Wallace
Avenue
5. Remove the restriction of a No Left Turn – Wellington Avenue South
6. Retain the restriction of a No Right Turn for Truck Traffic on Main Street
Eastbound at Wallace Avenue
7. Remove parking stall on Main at Davidson Avenue South (290 Main St. E.)
