UTRCA Receives Weed Fighting Grant

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has received a grant from the Invasive Species Action Fund to battle invasive species.

The $10,000 grant will be used to deal with the invasive Japanese Knotweed as well as the dog strangling vine and giant hogweed.

Officials with the conservation authority say all three species are a threat to biodiversity and a hazard to the community.

Control measures by the UTRCA includes applying herbicide directly onto leaves and stems of the weeds after removing seeds by hand.
