UTRCA Complete Electrofishing Excercises Along Avon River

Staff with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority met with staff of Stratford’s Energy and Environment Committee.

Gathering along the Avon River, staff took part in a fish study east of the St. Vincent Street Dam conducting electrofishing exercises to collect and record the fish species found in the river.

A total of 17 fish species were found which include smallmouth bass, white sucker, common shiner, bluntnose minnow and the Northern Sunfish – a special concern species at risk.

The presence of the Northern Sunfish was encouraging as it shows the urban section of the Avon is able to support a species of conservation interest.
