United Way Bringing Attention to Local Cost of Housing and Rent

United Way Perth Huron is drawing attention to the cost of housing and the impacts on Huron-Perth residents.

This summer United Way began sharing videos of two Perth-Huron residents who have faced challenges with evictions and high rent in the area.

The Workers Need Housing videos showcases two workers from Perth-Huron.

Emily is an accountant from Perth County who was evicted at the height of the pandemic and the new unit she found was $1,000 more per month.

Victoria is a minimum wage worker from Huron County who she and her husband pay more than half their income for a small one-bedroom unit.

Executive Director, Ryan Erb says rent has gone through the roof to the point where unfortunately many workers simply cannot afford the housing they need.
