The Upper Grand District School Board is updating policies on celebrations and the naming of schools.
As it stands currently the naming policy for schools is that they cannot be named after people with a policy update on celebrations and commemorations including the flying of flags.
A policy update shows the list of issues with naming buildings after people includes their legacy and controversy, a representation with the policy suggesting now names to reflect places unique programs or focus, reference local environment, highlight the areas of historical significance and reflect Indigenous Peoples or the traditional lands on which the building is located.
Feedback on the policies is being collected until December 26th.
