Turtle Hatchling Releases Continuing Across Watershed

The last of the turtle hatchlings are being released this week across the watershed with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority.

This year with the help of Southern Ontario at Risk Reptiles over 8000 hatchlings have been released locally and the number continues to grow.

Eastern Spiny Softshell turtles were among the recent releases.

Over the summer 600 turtle nests were identified as species and risk and filled up the UTRCA incubators which with the help of the SOARR program 100 per cent of the eggs would have been lost due to flooding which occurred across the area in July.
