Trudeau Steps Down as Party Leader and Prime Minister

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stepped down as the leader of the Liberal party and will resign as Prime Minister once the next Liberal leader has been chosen.

This comes after much push back from his own caucuses across the country to step down and put forward a new leader.

Trudeau held a conference earlier this morning on his resignation and the prorogation of Parliament until March 24th, meaning MP’s will not gather in the chamber for the next few months.

“I intend to resign as party leader and as Prime Minister after the party selects its next leader through a robust nationwide competitive process.” Trudeau

Trudeau says if he is having to fight internal battles, he can’t be the best option in an election.

There has been no word yet on who among the Liberals would be stepping forward in a now coming leadership race.
