Thursday Storm Causing Issues with RT Orr Dam Sluice Gate

Lake Victoria may be lower than usual for the next while after an issue at the sluice gate at the RT Orr Dam in Stratford.

Last Thursday during the storm the gate at the dam was operated automatically to release water and prevent flooding upstream.

During this time the gate was open, debris had gotten caught preventing the gate from fully closing.

Efforts by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority to flush the debris has been unsuccessful and as a result, Lake Victoria has been draining and likely will be fully lowered before the debris can be removed.

Once the gate has been closed, the reservoir will start to refill.
