The Story of The Hub Butchery

If you live in the Huron Perth area you may have noticed a cute car zipping it’s way around your neighbourhood with the words “The Hub Butchery” written on it’s side. There is quite a remarkable story behind this establishment.

The Hub Butchery first opened in Stratford 5 years ago. Media and Marketing Manager Julia Allum explains how it all got started.

“Kevin Larsen and I, the owner, actually worked together when we were teenagers at a restaurant that was the home before The Hub was. I remember Kevin saying to me One day I will own this building. Fast forward 10 years and Kevin bought the property and opened up The Hub.”

The business has evolved throughout the last half decade. Julia takes us through elements of the business at it’s original location in the Festival City.

“It started as a live music venue, roof top patio, pub style food. We saw a lot of success in Stratford. So we decided to branch out.”

And branching out they did. The next step in the evolution of the Hub Butchery saw their second location open in Mitchell a year ago. The common thread that runs through both locations is the support of local. Julia explains.

“With The Hub we really focus on supporting local craft beer, supporting local businesses, local breweries. This switches us into supporting local farmers. Bringing good local food to our plates and offering it to the consumers. Why can’t we do that under The Hub brand.”

The Hub also made the move into local delivery as well. Julia explains the roots of this side of their business.

“Last March we had to look at our business plan and realize very quickly the customer couldn’t come to us so we had to go to them.”

The Hub offers a wide variety of foods both prepared and as part of their butchery. Offerings include beef, pork and poultry. They also offer produce boxes with a selection of fresh vegetables and fruit.
