Team of the Week: Central Perth Predators

There has been little slowdown for local minor hockey and the accomplishments seen from tournaments and weekend runs locally and taking part across Ontario.

This has been no exception for the Central Perth Predators U13 girls team who captured gold recently at the Belmont Aylmer and Dorchester Blazers Tournament (B.A.D)

The U13 team pulled together in the finals against the Lambeth Lancers 2-1 in the shootout to win gold.

Scott Horton, coach of the U13-C Predators says it was plenty of heart racing and tense moments in the shootout.

“Both our girls scored, the goalies stopped both shots and that was it. It was wild.” said Horton.

Horton, who also coaches the U15 team fell in the semi finals 1-0 to Chatham Kent but adds there is plenty to proud of there.

“I think they scored with 2 minutes left in the 3rd period and it was a nail biter for sure. There was emotions in the stands, on the ice and everywhere it was a wild event. I think we deserved a better fate but y’know that’s just not the way sport goes.”

Down the road there is much to see for them, including an all star weekend host honours.

“The Western Ontario Girls Hockey League is holding its All Star Games and we’re hosting it this year. Central Perth will be in Milverton on March 26th. It covers a bunch of teams, total of 210 girls from all the teams in the league in Milverton starting at 9am. It’s going to be a pretty cool event”
