Students Request “Home of Patrick Anderson” Signs in Fergus

Centre Wellington council heard from 3 students in grade 7 from Elora Public School in hopes to have better honours for local Paralympian Patrick Anderson.

Lily Brown, Helena Kogen and Mya Hunt presented to council the request to have two highway signs read “Home of Patrick Anderson” at the north and south ends of Fergus.

For the students, it was being able to speak with Anderson which inspired them forward.

“As a member of this community we were upset we didn’t know about Pat, his story and his accomplishments. We felt if Pat was an Olympian rather than a Paralympian we would have known Pat long before. We would like to change that.”

Each sign, created by Fergus Printing would cost $197 plus HST with the goal to have the signs up by the spring.

Council will continue discussion later on the proposal.

If passed, Centre Wellington would mark the first community in Canada to honour a Parasport athlete.
