Strike Action Begins for GM Workers

Strike action has started at three General Motors facilities in Canada after a deal could not be reached for contracts t o improve wages and pensions by the midnight deadline.

Unifor, which represents around 4300 workers at GM said it would go on strike at three facilities, in Oshawa at the Assembly Complex and CCA Stamped Products, the St Catharines Powertrain Plant and Woodstock’s Parts Distribution Centre adding to the labour unrest across the North American auto industry.

Unifor adds it wants to see GM take a page from the new three year contract the union reached with Ford.

The union says its looking for improvements for part time workers as well as seek a path to full time and on pensions and support for retiring workers.
