Stratford Police arrest Barricaded Person this afternoon in St. Marys

The Stratford Police Service announced that a Barricaded Person has been arrested in St. Marys. Police were called to the scene Thursday, January 12th at 10:30 am to the area of Lark Lane and Thomas Street.

They had received a complain of a male uttering threats to kill his neighbour and their dog. Police attended the area and discovered the male had barricaded himself inside his home.

Contact was attempted, with the male repeatedly threating harm to the officers on scene. Further investigation revealed the male had also repeatedly blasted an air raid siren at all hours of the day and night over the past couple days.

The male involved was known to police as a 54-year-old resident of St. Marys.

The involved male had current warrants on file after failing to attend court for a long list of charges from October 18th, 2021 including:

He also had outstanding charges from a March 7th incident from 2022.

As a result of the danger posed to the public, police secured the area surrounding his home and closed off the area. Police Negotiators attempted to contact the male to ensure a peaceful resolution to this matter.

The male refused to speak with police and turn himself over, resulting in the Police Tactical Unit entering the residence to conduct an arrest.

At 1:38 pm the male was arrested without incident. He was transported to Stratford Police Headquarters where he is in custody to attend a bail hearing.

As a result of this incident he has been charged with 3 counts of uttering threats and mischief.
