Stratford Not Continuing Renewable Natural Gas Project

The City of Stratford is not going forward on a renewable natural gas project which was a part of a $20 million project for the city’s sewage treatment plant.

The decision comes following the impacts of the pandemic and an expired $5 million in grant funding from the Ontario Centre of Innovation.

The project which was given its $20 million estimate in 2019 would have seen upgrades to Stratford’s Water Pollution Control Plant to have a more energy positive facility to treat solid and liquid organic waste and convert produced bio-gas into renewable natural gas to sell back to the local natural gas distribution system.

The project was paused in early 2020 due to the pandemic.
