What really started a few years back but grew this year in North Perth was the call for action and equip school buses with stop arm cameras.
First gaining ground by North Perth councilor Allan Rothwell, council looked into the move which involved getting the province on board and while conversation over the summer and fall seemed to hit a brick wall despite the call to action getting almost province wide support from other town councils.
John Chapman came forward to council November 13th saying enough was enough and proposed North Perth follow a pilot project seen in Sudbury for stop arms cameras which finally got full approval on November 20th from council.
Continuing this month, local police and school bus operators agreed to the project and school buses in North Perth will soon be equipped with stop arm cameras, adding another layer for student safety.
