Stomach Flu Outbreak Declared Over at St Marys Hospital

A Gastrointestinal Outbreak has been declared over the St Marys Memorial Hospital.

The outbreak was confirmed on the inpatient unit on June 29th.

The virus responsible was identified as Norovirus, more commonly known as the stomach flu which causes an infection in the stomach and intestines and is very contagious.

Erica Jensen, manager Quality, Patient Safety and Infection Control says the impacts of patients, families and the health care team during an outbreak is significant.

She adds being able to declare the outbreak over is testament o their teams dedication and commitment to ensuring a safe environment.
