Statistics Canada is now allowing Canadians to compare the municipalities they live in and look into the quality of life.
Overall, Perth County’s quality of life is considered in a much better condition when compared to Toronto, though some issues are still present.
The graphs allow a dive into housing needs, postsecondary education and poverty.
For housing, two categories are broken down, Core Housing Need and Acceptable Housing,
Core Housing Need is defined as;
Refers to whether a private household’s housing falls below at least one of the indicator thresholds for housing adequacy, affordability or suitability, and would have to spend 30% or more of its total before-tax income to pay the median rent of alternative local housing that is acceptable
Overall, Perth County as a whole remains in good standing for core housing with each municipality ranking above 90%
Acceptable housing is defined as:
Refers to whether a household meets each of the three indicator thresholds established by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation for housing adequacy, suitability and affordability. Acceptable housing identifies which thresholds the household falls below, if any. Housing that is adequate in condition, suitable in size and affordable is considered to be acceptable.
For home ownership, over 80% of Perth County is in good standing but in terms of rentals the numbers are drastically different.
In North Perth 45% are considered not acceptable as a renter.
Other unacceptable numbers show Stratford at 45.3% West Perth at 40.4% Perth South at 29% and Perth East at 24.2%
