SIU Clears Officer in Less Lethal Firearm Shooting on Two Youths

The Special Investigations Unit has closed its investigation into an officers use of a less lethal firearm on two youths.

The incident dates back to November 21st when Wellington County OPP responded to a home in Harriston from a child welfare worker call who was threatened by the men while attempting to check on the well being of a baby.

The two youths allegedly damaged property, threatening the responding officers and threw objects at them.

Officers then struck both youth with a less lethal firearm and were arrested and cleared of any serious injuries while in hospital.

SIU Director Joseph Martino found no reasonable grounds to believe the officer who fired the less lethal firearm committed a criminal offence.
