The act is to combat trespassing onto farms and agri-food processing facilities or interfere in the transportation of livestock.
Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture says that he hears from far too many farmers who longer felt safe on their own property.
The act raises fines to $15,000 for a first trespassing offence, $25,000 for subsequent offences. Previously it was a fine of $10,000 per offence.
Aggravating factors introduced that would allow an increase in fines. Introduction of restitution for damages.
The act also protects farmers against civil liability from people who are hurt while trespassing or contravening the act.
And finally it removes consent to enter farm properties when it was given under duress or false pretenses.
