Rothwell Says Building Faster Fund is Good but not Great

At the start of Monday’s North Perth council meeting, councilor Allan Rothwell quickly touched on last weeks Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in London.

Most notably, Rothwell mentioned the new Building Faster Fund announced by Premier Ford which is a $1.2 billion program over 3 years to help municipalities meet or exceed their share of the province’s 1.5 million homes goal.

Rothwell says while the fund is good to have, it’s missing the mark locally.

“The fund while its great news it does not address the expressed concerns of this council or AMO with respect to the reductions proposed under Bill 23” said Rothwell.

Mayor Todd Kasenberg also touched on the fund how 10 per cent of the funding will be set aside for small and rural communities who have not been assigned a housing target by the province.

Kasenberg says when all communities are considered under the 10 per cent, reality is the funding really won’t be much.
