Wellington County OPP continue to warn residents to avoid being victims of scams after one senior lost $24,500.
On July 28th OPP received a report from a Rockwood resident who lost the money from an online fraud scam.
The victim was experiencing computer issues and turned to an online chat for support when an unknown suspect got control of the computer virtually and advised the computer had a virus.
Days later the victim was then contacted by the suspect saying their information was compromised and needed $20,000 for it to be removed with the victim meeting an unknown suspect at a parking lot who was then contacted again for more money, $4500 in gift cards and after a family member became suspicious and contacted police.
