Rockwood Resident Loses $25,000 to Credit Card Scam

OPP say to stay vigilant as a resident in Wellington County has lost $25,000 after falling victim to a credit card scam.

On January 5th at around 1pm, OPP responded to a report from a Rockwood resident who was contacted by an unknown individual claiming to be from a local bank.

The caller spoofed the call display to appear as if they were a legitimate bank.

The caller said there was fraudulent activity in the victims account and in order to stop this they would need to scan the victims physical cards.

The caller was told to place their cards in an envelope for someone to collect.

Within an hour a brown man with a medium build and black hair wearing gold jewelry and driving a white Tesla SUV arrived to take the cards.

It was later found transactions totaling $25,000 was taken in the GTA, Brampton and Pickering.
