Remembering the Capture of Vimy Ridge

On April 12th, 1917 – 106 years ago, Canadian troops captured Vimy Ridge.

Troops stormed the Ridge on April 9th which has been forever marked as Vimy Ridge Day.

Soldiers from all four Canadian Corp divisions stormed the ridge in France eventually capturing it over the Germans.

It was a defining moment for Canada but at the cost of 3600 Canadian lives with over 7000 wounded.

Among the dead was Stratford’s Lieutenant Cecil Farr.

Farr is remembered both in Stratford at the Cenotaph and honoured at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France.
