The Avon Maitland District School Board held its annual women’s in trade event dubbed The Real Deal on Skilled Trades on June 15th.
34 students from all eight high schools attended hearing from nine local female mentors and took part in a hands on multi trade workshop.
Lily Armstrong, a grade 10 student at Listowel DSS said in a release hearing from her mentors on how they got into skilled trades was helpful to give her an idea of what her next steps should be.
The event was supported by the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program with the goal to promote the top 14 skilled trades where women are historically underrepresented.
