Applications for the Ray Walter Memorial Scholarship is now open.
Graduating students of Listowel District Secondary who are enrolled in a post secondary business program are encouraged to apply.
The scholarship, established by Ward & Uptigrove is all in memory of a loving friend, leader within the office at Ward & Uptigrove and a strong community member with various clubs such as the Kinsmen.
Ray Walter lost his life responding to a fire on March 17th 2011.
Jennifer McArthur, Partner for Ward & Uptigrove and a member of the selection process says this was something to do to give back to students and to remember Ray.
“I think the reason we did it is some of our clients and us as a group wanted to do something for him or something in his memory when he passed away. This was just a way to allow our clients, donate towards to and help students in highschool” said McArthur.
McArthur adds leadership and community involvement will be a consideration in the selection.
“We’ll look at their community involvement, how much have they been involved, was there leadership? Their leadership skills within the community, in and out of school.”
Eligible candidates must also have a minimum GPA of 75% in their graduating year.
