Rabies Vaccine Bait to Continue in Wellington County

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be making its rounds, dropping off rabies vaccine bait across Wellington County.

This has been seen in summers past across the county as the ministry drops off bait focusing on raccoon and skunk habitats where they are known to roam and live such as ravines, bushes and green spaces.

The vaccine will not be placed near playgrounds or schools.

While not harmful to people or pets, officials say you should contact a doctor if anyone ingests the bait or a veterinarian if a pet does.

Since 2015, the ministry has distributed over 7.5 million vaccine bait.

As a result the number of positive rabies cases has dropped 95 per cent since 2016.
