Province reduces restrictions at LTC homes under Stage 2 of Reopen Plan

In the wake of the Province’s move into Step 2 of the government’s Roadmap to Reopen, Ontario made additional changes to enhance the quality of life of long-term care home residents effective Wednesday, July 7th.

The changes will see residents allowed outdoor visits with up to 10 people.

All residents will be able to have up to 2 general visitors and 2 caregivers inside for an indoor visit.

As well personal care services may resume at homes and the co-horting of residents can be relaxed during outdoor activities.

There will also no longer be a limit as to the number of people who can be designated as a caregiver for a resident or their substitute decision maker.

Step 3 of the Roadmap to reopen is expected to ease restrictions further.
