Use of permanent marker did not fool a plate reader with a 63 year old facing multiple charges.
On April 4th at around 3pm, Wellington County OPP was on patrol when a pickup truck was identified by an automated licence plate recognition system and a traffic stop conducted on Wellington Road 109.
During investigation it was found permanent marker was used on their licence plates to try to avoid law enforcement and imitating a class designation on their plates, the driver was recently stopped by the MTO and their vehicle inspected and found to be prohibited and nearly 2000 unmarked cigarettes were located and seized.
As a result a 63 year old of Mount Hope was charged with Operating an Unsafe Vehicle, Driving a CMV Contrary to Prohibition, Deface Plate and Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes.
