Pharmacists able to Prescribe 13 Common Ailment Medications as of Jan 1st

The Province announced yesterday that Pharmacists as of January 1^st can prescribe 13 common ailment medications with just a patients health card.

The move is in effort to make it more convenient for people to connect to care closer to home.

The ailments include rashes, pink eye, insect bites and urinary tract infections.

The step removes a doctor’s visit and will come at no extra cost to residents of Ontario.

• hay fever (allergic rhinitis);
• oral thrush (candidal stomatitis);
• pink eye (conjunctivitis; bacterial, allergic and viral);
• dermatitis (atopic, eczema, allergic and contact);
• menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea);
• acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD));
• hemorrhoids;
• cold sores (herpes labialis);
• impetigo;
• insect bites and hives;
• tick bites (post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent Lyme disease);
• sprains and strains (musculoskeletal); and
• urinary tract infections (UTIs).
