As the provincial election campaign continues, Perth-Wellington candidates are knocking on doors and hearing issues from residents.
Among those in the trail, is Ian Morton for the Green Party.
Morton has 25 years of experience in education as well as a history of running in local politics who took a run in the 2022 Stratford election, falling short but earned much support.
There still remains many topics on residents minds from healthcare, the economy and housing.
Morton says personally he’s got high praise for the work local doctors and nurses are doing but he’s also hearing the issues in healthcare.
“On that one hand I feel so grateful and appreciative of this healthcare system we have and yet nobody I know is happy their ER is closed, nobody I know is happy nurses are leaving for larger centres because they get paid more and nobody is happy they have thousands of people in communities trying to find a family doctor.” said Morton.
Morton says when dealing with the economy and the threat of tariffs from the United States, they are paying close attention locally.
“When it comes to Perth-Wellington how are we making sure we are protecting our industry and individuals and communities to make sure we can maintain a robust economy that we aren’t losing jobs, we are creating jobs, we’re creating opportunities for entrepreneurs. The green platform has some good strengths here, especially in our riding.”
