Perth County council has decided to not implement an optional property tax subclass which allow municipalities to set a discounted rate for small businesses.
The reason for the choice boils down issues on how it would be administered.
Treasurer Corey Bridges suggested council to not go forward as the extra administrative work for local governments involves defining and identifying eligible businesses which could end up costing municipalities more than the savings it would have on business owners.
While not going forward, county councilor and North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg mentioned council still wants businesses to thrive.
