The announcement comes after police were notified on Tuesday around 6:20 am of an extortion incident in North Perth.
It was determined a male met a female on an app on his phone. During the conversation he sent an explicit photograph.
Shortly after a demand of money was made by the female in order to no distribute it to his friends or family.
Police urge all social media users to be aware of the dangers of online web chats where explicit conversations and photos are shared.
