Foundations of Personal Suppport Program (03/4/21)

Welcome to the Roland’s Good News File brought to you by Royal LePage Don Hamilton Real Estate… I’m Roland Archer.

The need for personal support workers in Huron Perth is great. As the population ages the desire to stay in their own homes and have care workers come in to provide supplemental care is increasing. Plus the facilities that currently utilizing PSW’s are requiring a larger pool of workers due to the pandemic.

Adult learners and students nearing the end of their time in high school will soon have the change to get a jump start on their training to become a personal support workers through a new dual credit course soon to be available through the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board and Fanshawe College.

The course will be available online and free of charge to both adults without a diploma and high school students who are just 4 credits away from graduating high school.

The course is entitled the Foundations of Personal Support and it gives students a introduction to the job of personal support workers and an overview of their work responsibilities within the health care system.

With classes set to run every Tuesday from March 23 to June 22nd students in the program will explore various topics through confidentiality and privacy, clients rights and boundaries, ethic issues in the industry, professional behaviour and applicable health care legislation through online class discussions, lectures and seminars.

The course will offer a barrier free opportunity for students to get a leap on attaining their psw certificate through a post-secondary program while still continuing their high school journey.

There is no tuition cost to take the course, no textbooks or learning materials to purchase and those enrolled in the course have free access to services offered by Fanshawe College.

For more information on the Foundations of Personal Support you can contact Aideen Moss at [email protected]. The deadline to register for the course is March 11th.
