Palmerston Townhouse Development Gains More Council Discussion

A new housing development in Palmerston has raised some questions from Minto council.

The development by Breymark Homes was the bulk of council discussion on Tuesday with a proposed 100 unit subdivision in the northwest end of Palmerston for 40 townhouses and 60 cluster townhouses.

When the question came to accessibility and for residents to “age in place” Chief Building Official Terry Kuipers says with the volume of homes, there will be a requirement for some to be accessible.

“I would just like to note that as soon as a building contains more than 6 units, 25 per cent of them need to be accessible. I didn’t do a count in terms of what each block has but there is the potential for the developer to provide accessible units” said Kuipers.

There currently is no plan in place for when Breymark hopes to get shovels in the ground.
