Symptoms include driving too fast in less-than-ideal conditions, following too closely and failing to plan for bad-weather driving conditions.
They advise a leading cause of collisions in winter months is poor driving, not driving conditions.
Tips they provide include:
- Slow down
- Adjust your driving to road & weather conditions
- Allow extra time to travel to & from a destination
- Leave extra space between vehicles
- Stay alert & focused on the road
- Engage your full headlights at all times
- Never stop on the roadway if possible (or stay in your vehicle off to the side if stuck and wait for help to arrive)
- Before heading out check MTO’s Ontario 511 website for up-to-date road information.
