OPP Respond to Suspicious Package Call in Mount Forest

UPDATE: A package that was reported by the OPP as suspicious has been determined by the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit to be non-explosive. Residents that had been evacuated have been allowed to return to the area.

Wellington County OPP were called to an address in Mount Forest this morning at approximately 8:40am.

Officers were responding to a report of a suspicious package at a housing complex on Egremont Street North in Mount Forest. The package was at the front door of the apartment building.

Police with the Assistance of the Housing Department evacuated the building and relocated them to a warming centre at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The Explosives Disposal Unit is enroute to the scene to dispose of the package. Police say there is no other known risk to public safety at this time.

Police say they will provide an update when information becomes available.
