The new program includes significant changes to the way the OPP requests services from and interacts with Tow & Storage Service operators.
It introduces a list of requirements they must meet before they can provide tow and storage services for police requested legislated tows.
These are tows for which police have legislative authority.
This includes impoundment for impaired, stunt driving or evidence.
Among the new requirements include that tow and storage operators must submit annual applications to the OPP, need to provide info related to ownership, registration, licence, vehicle, equipment and insurance and a signed release to authorize the OPP to conduct a criminal background check
