Ontario NDP Introduce Bill to Deregulate Gas Prices

Ontario NDP are introducing a private members bill which would deregulate gas prices, though Ontario’s energy minister says it wouldn’t actually do anything for lower costs for drivers.

With prices across the area hitting above 1.60 and expected to drive further the NDP bill would give the Ontario Energy Board power to regulate the retail price and wholesale mark up on petroleum products.

Energy Minister Todd Smith says however regulation does not lower gas prices and instead is calling on the federal government to stop planned increases to the carbon tax to allow people to get a break at the pumps.
