Ontario Hammering Down on Convicted Auto Thieves

Ontario will be suspending the drivers licenses those convicted of auto thefts.

Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria and Solicitor General Michael Kerzner introduced more stricter penalties to deter auto thefts.

Under the new legislation first time offenders would face a 10 year suspension which could go up to 15 years for a second offence and a lifetime if found for a third time.

This comes as numbers shared a vehicle was stolen every 14 minutes in Ontario and violent carjacking’s spiked to a 78 per cent increase in Toronto since 2021.

The legislation also dishes out stronger penalties for those convicted of stunt driving which starts with a one year mandatory license suspension.
