Ontario Backs Off from Housing Proposals Over Rural Areas

Ontario has now backed down from a housing proposal and a series of regulations which would have allowed for more housing to built beyond urban boundaries and in rural areas.

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark proposed a series of regulations alongside a bill which would have brought in more housing but as many had raised their concerns about, would have been over agricultural land.

It was learned earlier this week the government was giving it some consideration after meeting with leaders in the farming and agriculture groups.

The National Farmers Union, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Beef Farmers of Ontario and Dairy Farmers of Ontario were among the groups who put up a joint letter to urge the government to abandon the proposal.
