Ontario Agriculture Hall of Fame Announce 5 Inductees

The Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame will be inducting 5 individuals for this year who have made an impact on Ontario agriculture and beyond.

The list of accomplishments from the 5 inductees range from bee keeping, crop consulting, education, veterinary medicine and conflict resolution.

Among the inductees includes Dr, Patrica E Shewen who was a professor at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph from 1982-2011.

She was the first female Assistant Dean of Research and Graduate Affairs. Shewen is well known for her mentoring of graduate students and students at the veterinary college.

Shewan was nominated by Dr, Harry Brightwell and the Rotary Club of Stratford.

Paul Kelly will also be inducted he has been a key contributor to the Ontario bee industry who has managed the Honey Bee Research Centre at the University of Guelph since 1987. His work has yielded over $400 million annual to Ontario agriculture.

Patrick Lynch joins the inductees who started his career as an agronomy professional in 1973 working as a soils and crops specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculutre and Food. Lynch helped introduce the Certified Crop Advisor Program to Ontario.

Patricia Mighton has been a strong leader for Ontario Agriculture dating all the way back to 1964. Mighton was also the first female president of the University of Guelph’s OAC Alumni Association.

Lastly, James Rickard who has been named to the hall of fame served many agricultural organizations across Ontario and operated a 1300-acre diversified farm in Bowmanville. James’ work helped shape the agriculture industry in Ontario to move forward both efficiently and profitably.

The 2022 Induction Ceremony will take place on Sunday June 12th at the Grandway Events Centre in Elora.
